Tuli on irti! / Fire!

In 2010 the Finnish Science Centre Heureka commissioned Tuhru to make animations for Tuli on Irti! Fire! -exhibition at Logomo, Turku.

The animations are projected over a scale model of Turku in the notorious year 1827 when nearly all of the city burned down. The spreading of the fire is depicted with lights and smoke, with our animations illustrating the human perspective and details from the burning houses.

Elina and Ami here on the set with musician Pekka Tuppurainen (Ilma Records). Thanks to Pekka and the staff of Heureka, especially Jouko Koskinen and Jussi Kahlos, they were fun to work with.

Stage Fright / LOOP Videoart festival / Barcelona

We forget to announce about 90% of the festivals where our graduation animations have been shown the past year.

Anyway...

Stage Fright is screened at LOOP videoart festival in Barcelona.
You can see it everyday at Duduá gallery/shop, owned by the very best Alícia Rossello. The festival seems real nice, videos are screened around the city in more than 100 venues, galleries, museums, shops...

Picturing this happening makes me miss Barcelona a lot.. .. sigh.

Digitaalisten efektien myötä ero live-elokuvan ja animaation välillä on hämärtynyt. Missä taideanimaatiota voi nähdä ja miten se määritellään? Animaatiota on hankala luokitella elokuva- tai mediataiteen alalajiksi, vaikka selkeästi se onkin molempia. Pitäisikö animaatiota käsitellä omana itsenäisenä taiteenlajina, vai onko kyse ainoastaan tekniikasta, jota voidaan hyödyntää taiteen eri alueilla?

I found this Hand drawn animation by Geoff McFetridge via Book by it's cover where a zine of his was reviewed.

Plain pencil drawings on paper! Isn't that plenty. It looks like it could've been made a long time ago and his way of thinking really smells like old school animation ideas but in a really good way. Not to say the ideas are old... but when I go to animation festivals few people seem to be playing this kind of games anymore.
