Is this the future of Tuhru?

This image comes up first in google's image search for Tuhru.

If we used this image as a crystal ball to look beyond the 2000s what would it look like, I wonder?

Image originally from here.

We graduated from Turku Arts Academy

.. as animation directors... and mysterious medianomes. Hooray!

Also, Ami won the award for best student film in Zagreb with her Irresistible smile, hooray Ami.

painting: Anna Törrönen

Today, while the rest of Tuhru are attending Napa picnic in Helsinki, I'm staying in with a flu. Roaming about I found out lovely painter-collage-maker Anna Törrönen has made a website. The site is not finished so in the mean time you can see some of her paintings here.

I am lucky to baby sit for three of her paintings over the summer, in August I will be taking them to Spain for the Finnish-Spanish Cheap Art Party we're (that's B) organizing together with Duduá-gallery of Barcelona.

Girls with pencils

Laura Laine
Her sense of form reminds me of old favorites like Erté and Egon Schiele.

Hanna Terese Nilsson
I love her piles of folded cloths and the discreet color palette.

Meneb leikkimä

I found this Hand drawn animation by Geoff McFetridge via Book by it's cover where a zine of his was reviewed.

(click picture to see it, I didn't want to make a youtube account)

Plain pencil drawings on paper! Isn't that plenty. It looks like it could've been made a long time ago and his way of thinking really smells like old school animation ideas but in a really good way. Not to say the ideas are old... but when I go to animation festivals few people seem to be playing this kind of games anymore.

Wrapped up in books

Book by its cover is a blog project by Julia Rothman who pictures and writes about beautiful books she has collected. Tons of interesting children’s books, handmade books and comics, as well as design and fine art books. So many I would like to get my hands on!

starting from the top left corner: Days by Minae Kato and Kaori Kumura, Pry on Murmurs by Evah Fan, middle row: Green To Green by Katsumi Komagata, More In Less by John Broadley, bottom row: Don’t Don’t Don’t by Pauliina Mäkelä, Growing Pains by Neil Farber and The Book of Imaginary Books/ Le Livre Du Livre by Junzou Terada.

Tuhru has been collabrating with Swedish group Antarktiis on a book project for some time now. We will try and get it out by the end of this year. The working title is Second Thumb and it's a semi-narrative, fullcolor picture book. If you know any interesting publishers we might like to know about, do tell.
